Artist's Description

Standing on the banks of the Danube, in Budapest's Pest district, Hungary's Parliament building has been witness some of the country's most pivotal moments over the last 200 years. A contest was held during the 1880s to find the architect for the new Hungarian Parliament building which would represent the nation's sovereignty. Drawing inspiration from London's Houses of Parliament, the winner was Hungarian architect Imre Steindl designed the grand, neo-Gothic building which stands today. Work began in 1885; the building's inauguration was held in 1896(the 1000th anniversary of Hungary) and the parliament building was finished in 1902, when the first session took place. The construction of the parliament building took 17 years and sadly Imre Steindl went blind before his grand design was completed and died in 1902. Hello! My name is Joe Miko and thank you for visiting my store. I was born in Budapest,Hungary. Beside the fact that I grew up there and I love the country, I have always felt that Hungary is a paradise for photographers, with beautiful lakes, mountains and rivers. My favorite river is the Blue Danube that divides the city of Buda and Pest, because as you travel along the river you are presented with views of historic bridges, castles, churches and the surrounding natural beauty of the landscape. My favorite subject is a 200-year-old chain bridge because each visit I find something new and different. In my opinion, this is the beauty of photography.
